definition
A bedrock set is the registered base tier: the source files, their conversions into the working format, and the accruing L0 extractions — records of evidence pulled up from them, including negative findings ("looked for Y, didn't find it"). A question reaching into bedrock checks existing L0s first and attaches directly on a hit; only a miss triggers targeted reexamination and a new L0. L0s accrue to the bedrock set itself, so a bedrock set gets more useful and better understood the more it is used — by anyone. A question pyramid is the scaffold: an apex question recursively decomposed into a pyramid/DAG of sub-questions. An understanding pyramid is that scaffold grown through: built over one or more bedrock sets, its question nodes reach down into their L0s and pull evidence up into answer nodes, each answer supporting the question above it through its own evidence links, up to the apex. Each hangs from its apex as an overlay. Bedrock sets can be added after creation — or removed, at the honest price of answers going unsupported or unanswered.

The system class as a whole is the accretive understanding pyramid: overlays accrete question by question — most cleanly as a linear DAG progression — and every miss mints a new L0 into the bedrock, so understanding accrues exactly where questions cluster and the introspection needed to answer a novel question asymptotes toward zero over time, lazily and raggedly.
